Today I got to test out my waterproof breeches with fleece lining that I bought off Ebay back in October and have not had the chance to try out until today. Firstly because I keep wimping out of going BS in the rain/wind and secondly because I have only hunted once this season and it was a nice day!
The reason behind my decision to purchase was a particularly miserable day spent at Bricky where by the end of three phases I had run out of coats (I took 3), my breeches were foaming and even my leather wellies had given up the ghost and were leaking. I thought there has to be another way!
Today was one of those days where normally I would wimp out of BS but as its seven minutes up the road and I am currently rustier than the Titanic, I really had no excuses.
The ones I have are Tally Ho but there are several brands which offer them such as Derby House, Toggi, Equitech, Pikeur, Townends Equestrian and Irideon.
Pros – The saddle was wet but it was refreshing that I stayed dry once I got on the horse. I stayed warm and despite it continually raining, I also stayed dry.
Cons – Because these breeches are thicker than normal, they will not do your thighs any favours if, like me you are bred like an ID rather than a TB. They also make a slight swishing noise because of the Softshell fabric used when you walk. I am not sure they would cope with torrential rain all day but they coped with 90 minutes.
Hubby bought a pair for hunting, best investment ever. Thankfully haven’t had a wet enough day to bring them eventing yet, the events were all cancelled 🙁
