I first started the path down BS (I am still desperate to call it BSJA as BS gives me other connotations!) through eventers membership and I have actually stayed a member since then. I use it a lot in the summer to give me ring experience jumping and I much prefer it to unaffiliated. I also find if you jump BS courses, eventing courses look fine!
From BS website – British Showjumping have introduced a 3 Month Membership to support British Eventing members who are struggling to keep their horses ticking over during the present adverse weather conditions.
The ‘British Eventing Membership’ is offered to all current British Eventing members and will run between the between the 1st April – 30th June 2013.Membership will be just £49.00 for …both horse (Grade C) and rider that join and wish to compete during this period. Those competing on this membership category will be eligible for prize fund in addition to having any qualifying rounds recorded. Additional Grade C horses may be registered at a cost of £19 per horse.
For those wishing to continue their membership there is the option to renew as a national member on either a six of twelve month term.
To join please contact the British Showjumping Membership Team on 02476 698824 during office working hours (Weekdays 9am – 5pm). You will need your British Eventing registration details to hand in addition to your credit card!
Alternatively there is a riding club membership which offers great value if you want to join for a year. It is £126 for the year for both you and the horse and this is fixed for 2 years and is a great saving. Its only available if you have never been a member or you are a lapsed member for 3 years of more. Details of RC offer
If you are like me and are a member who events but does not want to commit to a year, I find the 6 month membership brilliant. The new online BS login is easy and makes keeping it up to date. It also means I am not hit with massive renewal costs if you phase horse and rider in different months. It is £66 for the rider and £49 for the horse. Details of 6 month membership
BS has an easy guide on how to join here: How to Join BS and once you have sent of your passport for the horse to be initially registered it is very easy to keep up to date with everything online through the member login.
Money is tight for me, and I choose BS over BD because around me the quality of the local unaff dressage is a really high standard with listed judges and I find Show Jumping under pressure much harder. I can only hope one day all the sports come together and offer a combined membership but until then unfortunately BD loses out on my money as I cannot afford to do everything.
