Tip of the Day: Marking out Poles on a Circle

If you want to make life easier when setting out poles on a 20m circle, use your lunge line (or baler twine) to help – mark out 10m on the line, then either tie it to a full water bucket in the middle, or have a friend hold it, and walk round them making marks in the surface to show where to put the middle of the poles.

If you’re feeling really fancy, you can make a marking rope by taking a long piece of rope, putting a loop at one end which you can slide onto a jump stand, then putting knots at 4m, 5m, 7.5m and 10m. You can then use this to mark out perfect 8m, 10m, 15m and 20m circles.

  • It’s a great and easy idea for putting things on a true circle. I use an electric fencing post to “hold” the end of my lunge line :-). I don’t have an arena though, only a field.
