When introducing skinny fences don’t jump straight in at the deep end with a proper narrow fence. By using jump blocks start off with a relatively wide fence and slowly remove blocks to make the fence narrower.
Blocks allow for so many variations in width and are easy to rest guide poles on if required.
Even if practising with an older horse it can be beneficial to start with a wider fence then work narrower as if you start narrow and the horse learns to skip out to the side it is harder to correct than if you start wider instil the fact they are jumping a fence at that location and then make it more challenging.
