Occasionally an individual or a company does something which just amazes you. Something totally unnecessary, unexpected and completely above and beyond the call of duty. It’s rare, but when it happens it is a really special moment. Most people don’t have the benefit of an internationally viewed website on which to express their thanks, but I do and so I shall!
Step up Carly Day of www.eliteusedsaddles.co.uk !
A couple of months ago I was in a quandary. It was the start of the team-chasing season, I’d just moved up to run in Opens (possibly the only equestrian competition I’ve ever participated in which has a minimum fence height but no maximum) and I suddenly found the stitching on the girth straps of my Butet XC saddle was starting to come undone. Disaster! I have to explain that I have had this saddle for about 6 years, it fits me like a glove and if I’m going to jump a fence over 3ft in any saddle it has to be this one. If there was a fire in my house I would rescue this saddle before I checked whether my husband had got out! However the consequences of the stitching giving way over a 6ft drop hedge did not bear thinking about so I phoned Sederholm Selected (UK Butet dealers) and arranged to send it back to them for repairs.
Now the nightmare. What on earth could I ride in whilst my saddle was in hospital? After an impassioned plea on the internet Carly got in contact to say ‘don’t worry, I have one exactly the same in stock that I can lend you’. And so, without knowing me from Adam, and refusing to take any money in return for the loan, she couriered the replacement saddle to me and I rode in it daily until mine was returned.
Carly, you are a hero. Thank you so much! I mean, who posts a couple of grand’s worth of saddle off to a complete stranger on the basis of a short Facebook conversation?
I can whole-heartedly recommend the service I received from Elite Used Saddles and suggest that if you’re in the market for a quality second hand saddle you take a look at their website. They even offer a free 10 day trial.
