One of the easiest and most effective canter balance/position exercises is, as you are cantering, to turn your chin so you are looking over your outside shoulder. Make sure you turn your whole head, not just your eyes. Initially try for a few steps down the straight and then around a corner, trying to keep the feel of the canter the same when you turn your head forward again. This immediately puts your body into “canter position” and rebalances your horse – the impact will amaze you!
