Tip of the Day: Colour-coded feed buckets

IMG_6250If you have more than one horse, and ever leave it to other people to feed your horses while you are away, this is a godsend. Gone will be the days when you arrive back from an event to find that the lactating broodmare’s had the oldie’s dinner, the oldie is looking far perkier than he should after being given the competition horse’s supper, etc etc.

All my horses are assigned a particular colour bucket, of which I have 2 or 3 each, and since when they are out in the fields the breakfast buckets sometimes stay there till later (if I’m out) it is very easy to put the green bucket in the field with the other green bucket, etc etc. It becomes pretty-much fool-proof to just follow the colours, so nobody ever gets the wrong feed again.
