Tip of the day: keeping cool & hydrated

Before bottle filled with squash and ready for the freezer. Note empty section section to allow for the expansion of the ice

As the temperatures continue to stay in the high 20s it is important to stay cool and hydrated especially when riding as the additional layers can cause you to overheat.

A simple tip which I have been doing daily recently has meant I’ve had access to an ice cold drink without a freezer during the day.

Each night at home I fill up a bottle (the larger the better) with diluted squash leaving a decent amount of room for water expansion and slightly squeezing the bottle when putting the lid on again allowing room for expansion.

After! Bottle full of lovely frozen squash ready to keep you cool for several hours

I then put the bottle in my freezer and leave overnight. Resulting in an over sized ice lolly in a bottle.

In the morning just before leaving home I will put the bottle into a cool bag and away I go. The contents of the bottle then slowly melt through the day. Even without a cool bag it will last for several hours before all the ice melts and it warms up but normally I would have already drunk it by then!
