One of the biggest advantages that pros have over amateurs is that they ride so many different horses.
My tip is to try as much as possible to ride other horses. I find it helps you look at your own horse with fresh eyes and makes you aware of what you are doing as a rider. It also gives you a confidence boost if a horse goes nicely for you. I also find that I often just ride the horse I have rather than having hang ups about the way it goes, things it might do etc.
I appreciate its difficult to spare the time to ride other horses but I find that even 15 minutes of riding a friends horse, getting a schoolmaster lesson or even hacking out to help a friend will be helpful.
