At this time of year (well ok normally a bit earlier but the weather loves mixing things up) our horses are loosing the last of their winter coats and despite best grooming efforts before hand the majority of that hair seems to attach itself to our saddle cloths.
Before putting your saddle cloths in the washing machine get out your vacuum cleaner
I always use a Horsewear wash bag when washing my saddle cloths to protect my washing machine (and prevent a Husband complaining his clothes are covered in horse hair!) but first I attack them with the vacuum. Spending just a few minutes removing the worst of the hair will make a humongous difference as although the wash bag will stop the hair escaping to clog up your washing machine the hair will distribute itself all over saddle cloths so the less the better.
The left hand side I have attacked with the vacuum the right I have not.
A rubber curry comb is another option – it is good for removing hair from numnahs, and is also useful for keeping the inside of turnout boots, etc clean.
Or just wash numnahs once a week (I have enough to do that) and then put the washing machine to rinse itself afterwards. I bought a wash bag but don’t find they get as clean
